Palestine
This would by far be the most confusing leg of our tour.
First, all the stuff you hear about Palestine simply isn't true. There's no fighting over land. There is no West Bank land controversy. Hell, there isn't any water, so how can there be any bank to fight over?
No one speaks Hebrew. No one seems to care about Arabs or Jews in general. We think CNN is either confused or just making shit up to sell advertising. We met several Mexicans, but not one Jew or Arab, even though we stopped at many convenient stores for beer. In fact, we saw a lot of Southern Baptist Churches, but not one Mosque or Synagogue!
We had heard that women must wear all black and cover their faces in Palestine or men will spit at them. So, Sarah and I dressed as Elvira and Morticia Adams and wore our BatGirl Masks. It gets pretty hot in Palestine, so we took a chance one day and ran around in bathing suits. No one cared. No one spat at us. In fact, they cheered us on and gave us Lonestar Beer and Corona.
Here's what CNN had to say about Palestine:
"The conflict between Palestinian Arabs and Jews is a modern phenomenon, which began around the turn of the 20th century. Although these two groups have different religions (Palestinians include Muslims, Christians and Druze), religious differences are not the cause of the conflict. It is essentially a struggle over land. Until 1948, the area that both groups claimed was known internationally as Palestine. But following the war of 1948-49, this land was divided into three parts: the state of Israel, the West Bank (of the Jordan River) and the Gaza Strip."
We talked to several locals. No one remembers any war in 1948. No one knew where the hell this "Gaza Strip" was, but assumed it was a small, private airport. And "Jordan River" is a country band that plays weekends at Gilleys. Yes, country music is scary, but it's not that bad! The whole thing is a scam. Palestine Rocks! Palestine is a very happy, friendly place!
Shame on you, CNN !!!
